Kiss Me Like You Mean It.  4th Feb 2017

Three of us went on Saturday evening to see the Rossendale Players perform “Kiss me like you mean it” by Chris Chibnall, and directed by Carolanne Connolly.

This play isn’t advertised as a comedy but I suppose it is, though not all the way through. It seems to cover all the emotions. It says in the programme that it’s about relationships and it was, but so is life. The programme also warns about strong language but as it doesn’t come across in a very angry manner I don’t think it offends. There is one extremely rude bit in the second half that comes across, because of the way it is played, in an extremely funny manner.

All four actors, two of each sex, were very good and there were only tiny mistakes – no doubt down to first night nerves.

The theatre was full, about 70, and the audience were very appreciative. The only minor grievance we had was that we were told, on arrival, that the bar didn’t open before the performance, so we went up the road to a pub only to find on returning to the theatre that it was open! Never mind. We booked through Ticket Line and just took our iPad in to show them the booking. No problem.

It was a very good night and we will be going again. I suggest you try it too. One last thing, why was it called “Kiss me like you mean it”, when there was no reference to this in the play itself?
